Why sunrise
The quietest water of the day
Most snorkeling trips out of Amed depart mid-morning, once the day's boats are already out and the wind has had time to pick up. Going out before sunrise means the sea is at its calmest — glassy, with the best underwater visibility of the day — and you're often the only boat at the shipwreck.
It's also simply a different experience: watching the sky turn over Mount Agung from the water, before the island properly wakes up, is part of what guests come back talking about as much as the snorkeling itself.
